There’s this site, You Are Not So Smart, which deals with things that we believe and tell ourselves and tells us about the reality of those situations.  I love it, and there are three articles in particular that I believe everyone should read in an attempt to become better at life.
1. Ego Depletion
The Misconception: Willpower is just a metaphor.
The Truth: Willpower is a finite resource.
2. Catharsis
The Misconception: Venting your anger is an effective way to reduce stress and prevent lashing out at friends and family.
The Truth: Venting increases aggressive behavior over time.
3. Learned Helplessness
The Misconception: If you are in a bad situation, you will do whatever you can do to escape it.
The Truth: If you feel like you aren’t in control of your destiny, you will give up and accept whatever situation you are in.
4. The Benjamin Franklin effect
The Misconception: You do nice things for the people you like and bad things to the people you hate.
The Truth: You grow to like people for whom you do nice things and hate people you harm.
If you want to get ahead in life, read these articles and think through them deeply.
